Day 2Conquering the Heights of St. John’s Fortress
Day two began with the most iconic activity in Kotor: the hike up to St. John’s Fortress. The fortress sits 1,350 steps above the Old Town, but trust me, the effort is worth it. I started early in the morning to avoid the midday heat, and as I climbed, the view of Kotor Bay became more and more spectacular. The turquoise water framed by steep, green mountains was a sight I’ll never forget.
By the time I reached the top, I was standing on centuries of history. The fortress itself dates back to medieval times, with remnants of ancient walls, lookouts, and a chapel. I spent a while at the summit, soaking in the views and the quiet of the place.
After descending, I was ready for a hearty lunch, so I stopped by Galion Restaurant along the waterfront. Their seafood risotto was the best I’ve had in a while, made with fresh, local catch and perfectly seasoned. The setting, right on the bay, gave me a front-row seat to the beauty of Kotor.
The rest of the afternoon was spent strolling along the marina and checking out the local shops. In the evening, I visited Maximus Nightclub in the Old Town, which is housed in an old fortress. It was a unique experience to dance the night away in such a historical setting!
Lunch at Galion Restaurant was a highlight, with its fresh seafood risotto and stunning views of the bay. The setting was perfect for a post-hike meal, with a relaxing and elegant atmosphere. The quality of the seafood was exceptional, making it a must-visit for any seafood lover.
Food
The hotel remained a great base for my adventures. The location within the Old Town made it easy to explore the city, and the staff was very accommodating with local recommendations. However, if you’re sensitive to noise, you may want to stay slightly further from the main square.
Accomodation
The hike up to St. John’s Fortress was the best part of the day. The views of the Bay of Kotor from the top were absolutely breathtaking, making the steep climb worth every step. This activity was challenging but rewarding, perfect for travelers who love adventure and history.
Activity
The hike up to St. John’s Fortress can be steep, so start early and bring water. The view from the top is absolutely unforgettable, but it’s a climb that demands preparation.

Day 3Exploring Beyond Kotor – Perast and the Bay
At Conte Hotel & Restaurant in Perast, I enjoyed a delicious seafood lunch, with octopus salad being the standout dish. The fresh ingredients and simple preparation really highlighted the flavors of the local catch. The meal, paired with the view of the bay, was an experience in itself.
Food
My stay at the boutique hotel remained pleasant, and the proximity to Kotor’s main attractions made everything easy to access. The Old Town is perfect for short stays, with convenience at every corner, though the night-time sounds of the square might not suit light sleepers.
Accomodation
Visiting Perast and taking a boat to Our Lady of the Rocks was a peaceful and scenic experience. The boat ride was short but enjoyable, offering fantastic views of the surrounding mountains and sea. Exploring this quiet town was the perfect way to end my stay in the Kotor area.
Activity
Don’t miss Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks—it’s a peaceful escape from the more touristy spots in Kotor. If you’re looking for something quieter but just as beautiful, this is the place to be.

Summary of My Trip
Through Bobby's eyes
My experiences
Kotor left me with a lasting impression as a destination that beautifully blends history, natural beauty, and a rich cultural experience. From its well-preserved medieval Old Town to the breathtaking views of the bay, there’s something for every type of traveler here. After spending a few days exploring, I’ve rated my experience in Kotor across various categories to give a well-rounded assessment.
I had lunch at Konoba Scala Santa, where I tried the local pršut and cheese plate paired with Montenegrin wine. The flavors were fresh and full of character, giving me a taste of authentic Montenegrin cuisine. For dinner, I stopped by a cozy cafe in the Old Town, enjoying some light Mediterranean dishes.
Food
I stayed at a charming boutique hotel inside the Old Town, which had comfortable rooms and a fantastic view of the town square. The historic building added a lot of character to the experience, but it could get noisy at night due to the central location. Still, it was perfect for walking everywhere.
Accomodation
Exploring the winding streets of Kotor’s Old Town was an amazing way to start the trip. The architecture, the atmosphere, and visiting landmarks like the Cathedral of St. Tryphon made it a rewarding cultural experience. Every corner of the Old Town felt like a step back in time.
